Mosque in Germany’s Cologne to begin calling muslims to prayer

Adhan will be played for the first time today in the mosque that opened in 2018 in Cologne, Germany, Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB) told Report.

The city administration, public representatives, and journalists took part in the press conference held in the Cologne mosque affiliated to DITIB yesterday. DITIB employee Zakaria Altug criticized the rules regarding the adhan. He said that the sound of adhan should be louder than the sound of a hair dryer:

"Adhan sounding up to 60 decibels is allowed. What does it mean? If you walk out of the mosque and stand next to the pedestrian lane in front of you, you will not be able to hear the adhan."

Altug emphasized that the adhan is a call to Muslims to pray, and the voice of the muezzin should be well heard in the surroundings:

"Just as the church bells on Sundays are clearly heard around, the adhan should be heard around the mosque. If we are talking about religious equality..."

He said the call for prayer will last five minutes between 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., and the volume from the mosque should not exceed 60 decibels, according to the pilot project.
