Migrants could be kept on cruise ships in UK

The British Home Office has considered housing migrants on disused cruise ships and in university halls of residence to cut the cost of putting them in hotels, Report informs via The Times.

Suella Braverman, the home secretary, has told officials to find new sites that can take a lot of people.

Every day the Home Office is spending £6.8 million (over $7.85 million) to house almost 50,000 asylum seekers and Afghan refugees in hotels. Some are even staying in luxury hotels at a cost of more than £150 per night ($173). The average price is about £105 per night ($121), but Braverman has pledged to cut the cost, which has taken the overall bill for the asylum system to more than £2 billion per year ($2.31 billion).
