German Chancellor Angela Merkel believes that her country is already facing the third wave of the pandemic.
Report informs with reference to TASS that the Chancellor expressed her opinion during a meeting of the CDU / CSU faction in the Bundestag.
"We cannot hide the fact that we are now dealing with the third wave," she said.
Nevertheless, according to Merkel, the working group led by the head of the Federal Chancellor's Office, Helge Braun, should continue to work on a strategy for the gradual abolition of the current restrictive measures.
The head of the federal government stressed that it is important to open shops first, then restaurants, and only after them, hotels.
Merkel is seriously concerned about new strains of coronavirus, one of which was previously identified in the UK. The British variant of the coronavirus may be 70% more infectious. It was first reported to the public on December 19 amid rising incidence in the UK.
