Chinese President Xi Jinping is trying to cause division among Western countries by hosting European leaders in Beijing, Report informs referring to Financial Times.
The visit to Beijing by Macron and European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen had presented Xi with an opportunity to push France and Europe on their strategic autonomy and not “fall blindly into the American camp”.
“President Xi is trying to drive a wedge between the US and the EU. Because in the Chinese view, Europe is still at play,” he said.
The Daily Telegraph also indicates that the Chinese leadership is interested in alienating the EU from the US, which wants to see Europe as an ally in confronting China. The publication notes that this is a difficult task for Beijing, given that China refuses to condemn Russia’s actions in Ukraine.
