A delegation of American diplomats discussed with Syrian authorities in Damascus the issues of lifting sanctions and removing "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" from the list of terrorist organizations, Report informs, citing Russian media.
On Friday, a group of US diplomats arrived in Damascus on an official visit, including recently appointed Senior Advisor for Syria Daniel Rubinstein, US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf, and US Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Roger Carstens.
"The American delegation discussed with the new Syrian administration the issue of lifting sanctions on the Syrian people, including the Caesar Act, [...] as well as removing Hayat Tahrir al-Sham from the list of terrorist organizations," writes the publication.
In November-December 2024, rapid changes occurred in Syria, leading to the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime. On November 29, 2024, Syrian opposition forces began a coordinated offensive in the northwest and south of the country, aiming to encircle Damascus. Within 11 days, the rebels captured key cities, including Aleppo, Hama, Homs, and finally entered Damascus on December 8. Bashar al-Assad left the country, marking the end of his 24-year rule.
