Media: Kim Jong Un declared a threat of famine in the DPRK

The leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong Un, warned about the possible food shortage at a plenum of the Central Committee of the Korean Labor Party, Report informs, citing the Nordon Sinmun newspaper.

"We could not implement the plan to increase grain production due to the damage caused by last year's storm. Thus, there is a tense situation in the food supply of the population," said the North Korean leader.

According to Kim Jong Un, the extension of quarantine measures to combat pandemic "has led to a prolonged struggle for clothing, food, and housing."

In addition, Kim Jong Un called on the party and the people of North Korea to be ready for a new "difficult march." The term originated in the history of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the 1990s. At that time, the country was suffering from a severe economic crisis aggravated by mass starvation.
