Massive flooding in Peru kills 18 people

Flooding and torrential rains caused by Cyclone Yaku have killed 18 people in Peru, Report informs via TASS.

The National Institute of Civil Defense noted that "the number of victims of the natural disaster over the past week has reached 18 people." According to the authorities' statistics, this rainy season, which began a few months ago, has already killed 59 people, and more than 1,300 residential buildings have been destroyed.

Floods and landslides regularly kill Peruvians. In February 2023, 40 people became victims of the landslides in the department of Arequipa in southern Peru, and during the rainy season of 2017-2018, the disaster claimed the lives of more than ten people and destroyed more than 16,000 houses.
