Magnitude 5.5 earthquake strikes off Philippines

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, on Tuesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), Report informs via the Inquirer.

The agency initially stated it as a magnitude 5.8 earthquake.

The tremor occurred 21 kilometers southwest of Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, at 10:38 a.m. (GMT+8), based on Phivolcs data.

The earthquake had a depth of focus of 43 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.

Aftershocks are expected, the state seismologist added.
