Lithuania eyes paying illegal migrants for their return home

The Lithuanian authorities are ready to offer illegal migrants from Asian and African countries who entered the republic through Belarus payments for their return home, Head of the Vilnius Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Eitvydas Bingelis said on the air of LRT radio, Report informs referring to TASS.

“The specific amount of possible payments has not yet been established. In any case, this money is not given in cash,” he said.

As Bingelis explained, according to the IOM’s guidelines, the funds are allocated as compensation for the costs of reintegration in the country which the migrant left. “This can be compensation for renting housing, learning a profession, financial support for entrepreneurship initiatives,” added the head of the bureau.

As a rule, those intending to illegally get into the EU pay the organizers of illegal traffic up to 10,000 euros. For this, they have to sell housing, and then people have nowhere to return.
