Lithuania has abolished the post of attaché for customs issues in the Russian Federation at its embassy in Moscow. The decision was made on Wednesday at a meeting of the Lithuanian Government, Report informs via TASS.
Given that the scale of cooperation with Russia in the future is likely to be reduced or even become minimal, there is no point in extending the ending mandate of the customs attache, the Government said in a statement.
At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to establish the position of a customs attaché in the UK and in Ukraine. According to the Lithuanian Government, although the volume of trade with Ukraine has recently decreased, after the end of the conflict, they "will not only return to the previous level, but will inevitably increase due to the need to restore Ukraine."
