Lebanon, Israel make progress in demarcation of maritime border

Significant progress has been made toward settling the border dispute between Lebanon and Israel, acting Foreign Affairs Minister of Lebanon Abdallah Bou Habib said, Report informs.

"Negotiations on the demarcation of the maritime border have not yet been concluded, but are progressing well. Significant and noteworthy progress has been made in resolving the dispute over offshore oil and gas fields ownership," Abdallah Bou Habib said.

He stressed that despite the demarches of the radical Shiite group Hezbollah, the final solution to the border problems remains with the Lebanese state.

Abdallah Bou Habib met with Amos Hochstein, US Senior Advisor for Energy Security, who came to Beirut and played the role of mediator between the parties.

The disputed area is located at the junction of Lebanon's Qana gas field with Israel's Karish field. The maritime border between the two neighbours, which have been formally at war since 1948, is still undecided.
