Latvia supports bill banning tourist trips to Russia and Belarus

The Latvian Seimas supported amendments to the bill on tourism, which prohibit tourist trips to Belarus and Russia, according to the parliament's statement, Report informs via TASS.

The action was related to the possibility that Latvian residents could be involved in espionage when traveling to Russia or Belarus.

“The ban is expected to apply to all tourism service providers registered in Latvia,” the statement said.

Latvian tour operators do not organize tours to Russia, but four agencies offer tours to Belarus.

“For the amendments to enter into force, the Seimas must support them in two more readings,” the document said.

On February 27, the Latvian government extended restrictions on entry into the country and visa issuance for citizens of those countries until December 31, 2026.
