Kyiv reveals details of agreement signed with US

The Ukrainian Presidential Office has revealed details about the agreement on rare metals signed with the United States.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the Ukrainian President's Office, told Report's Eastern European bureau, that this means the White House will not distance itself from addressing the Ukrainian issue.

"The war in Ukraine defines the format of global relations that will exist after it. The US wants to dominate during this period. They will, of course, exert direct influence on both Europe and global trade, as well as on global economic and political relations," he said.

Podolyak stated that he would like to particularly highlight two parts of the rare metals agreement. "The economic part of the agreement stipulates that Ukraine will allow the development of various minerals, including rare earth elements and oil and gas resources. The US will be given the opportunity to enter large infrastructure projects in Ukraine. The US will be ready to invest or attract investments," he said.

He added that the US would be ready to invest in technology to reduce production costs and increase the export price of the products. According to him, the US will aim to make Ukrainian products competitive in global markets.

Podolyak emphasized that the funds earned under this deal will remain in a transparent fund and be reinvested into Ukrainian industry.

"Economically, everything is clear and beneficial. There is another factor. This deal directly opens up the opportunity for us to purchase weapons, including from the US. Why? Because this is an asset. The US is acquiring assets on Ukrainian territory. Assets need to be protected. If you protect assets, it means you must allow Ukraine to protect its territory. You cannot let potentially valuable assets for the US fall into other hands," he stated.

Podolyak noted that when Russia occupies territories, it attracts other countries, including China, to develop certain resources, thus indirectly strengthening China in the global confrontation.

"The US is unlikely to be interested in directly strengthening a competitor through Russia. Therefore, of course, this is beneficial for us both from a security perspective and in terms of the potential to strengthen our defense capabilities. So today, in my opinion, the US evaluates Russia, the war, and the paths to peace more realistically and pragmatically, and they are approaching the partnership with Ukraine in an extremely productive manner. We are truly partners," he concluded.
