Korotchenko: Azerbaijan gave proportionate & adequate response to Armenia’s provocations

Azerbaijan gave a proportionate and adequate response to Armenia’s provocations. Baku’s actions are absolutely legitimate and comply with international law, Russian military expert, editor-in-chief of the Natsionalnaya Oborona (National Defense) magazine Igor Korotchenko said, the Russian bureau of Report informs.

He was commenting on the large-scale provocation of the Armenian Armed Forces units last night in the Dashkesan, Kalbajar and Lachin directions of the Azerbaijan-Armenia state border.

The expert noted that the reason for the tense situation on the border is Yerevan’s attempts to disrupt the signing of a peace treaty: “On the part of Armenia, these are attempts to disrupt the signing of a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, because after the recent meeting in Brussels of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, mediated by the head of the Council of the European Union, it was clear that the signing of the peace treaty is near. Obviously, there are forces in Armenia that are not interested in such a scenario, because the peace treaty means Yerevan’s renunciation of territorial claims,” Korotchenko concluded.

According to the Russian expert, there are third parties who are interested in aggravating the situation in the region. “The US, France and the EU as a whole, understand that a peace treaty means the unblocking of transport communications in the region, the launch of the Zangazur corridor, the launch of the full-scale operation of the North-South corridor, and these corridors are necessary for Russia in order to bypass the Western blockade and sanctions. Therefore, tension in the region means postponing the start of the operation of these corridors, and this is in the long-term interests of the policy of the leading Western countries,” Korotchenko said.
