Kishida's Cabinet resigns ahead of appointment of new Japan Prime Minister

Outgoing Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio's Cabinet has resigned ahead of the appointment of a new Cabinet, which will be led by Kishida's successor, Ishiba Shigeru.

Report informs via Japanese media that the Kishida administration's Cabinet ministers submitted letters of resignation en masse at a Cabinet meeting, which started shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Kishida has led the government since he succeeded former Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide about three years ago in October of 2021.

Ishiba was elected as the leader of the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party. He is expected to form his Cabinet, after he is elected Prime Minister by both chambers of the Diet in the afternoon.

He will meet with Ishii Keiichi, the leader of the LDP's junior coalition partner Komeito, before he puts together a task force aimed at appointing his Cabinet ministers.

The lineup of ministers will be announced by a newly-appointed chief cabinet secretary.

Ishiba's Cabinet is expected to be officially inaugurated in the evening, after ceremonies are held at the Imperial Palace.

Ishiba plans to hold a news conference before his first Cabinet meeting. At the conference, he will provide information about the lineup and how he plans to run his government.
