Kazakhstan to join BRICS on January 1

Kazakhstan will receive the status of a "partner country" of BRICS in 2025, spokesman of Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry, Aibek Smadiyarov, said.

Report's Kazakhstan bureau informs that Smadiyarov confirmed the corresponding statement made by Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov.

"Yes, Kazakhstan is receiving the status of a BRICS partner country," Smadiyarov said in response to the agency's question.

Ushakov previously announced that one of the important outcomes of the Kazan summit was the establishment of a category of BRICS partner countries and the approval of a list of 13 states. Invitations were sent to these states. Confirmations of readiness to become BRICS partner states have been received to date from Belarus, Bolivia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.

According to him, the listed countries will officially acquire the status of BRICS partner states from January 1, 2025.

BRICS is an informal interstate association of countries with dynamically developing economies, founded in June 2006. (BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, UAE, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia.
