Joe Biden approves Louisiana emergency declaration

US President Joe Biden has signed a decree declaring a state of emergency in Louisiana due to the approaching tropical storm Nicholas and ordered federal aid to be provided to local authorities, Report informs referring to the White House website.

“Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared that an emergency exists in the State of Louisiana and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from Tropical Storm Nicholas beginning on September 12, 2021, and continuing,” reads the statement.

The president’s action authorizes the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to coordinate all disaster relief efforts which have the purpose of alleviating the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population, and to provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures.

After Biden signed a decree declaring an emergency, the US National Hurricane Center reported that Tropical Storm Nicholas had intensified to a Category 1 according to Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. At the moment, the maximum wind speed within the hurricane is 33.3 m/s.
