Japan's new prime minister announced

Japan's lower house of parliament on Monday elected Fumio Kishida, chairman of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), as the country's 100th prime minister by a majority of votes, Report informs via TASS.

Kishida's candidacy is currently being voted in the upper house of parliament. Reportedly, the majority of MPs will vote for him - the ruling bloc, led by the LDP, has a majority in both houses of parliament.

The government of Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga resigned a few hours ago.

The new head of government, Fumio Kishida, will later announce the composition of his new government.
