Japan renews record for daily increase in coronavirus infections

Japan again announced a record daily increase in new cases of coronavirus infection on Thursday, as evidenced by the summary data of the prefectural administrations.

Report informs that over the past day, the country recorded at least 233,000 new coronavirus infections, an all-time high for Japan throughout the entire pandemic. The record was also updated in Tokyo on Thursday, with at least 40,406 new cases of infection detected there over the past day. A similar trend is observed in other major Japanese cities.

Despite the current epidemic situation, the Japanese government does not plan to impose restrictions. Local authorities explain this approach by low mortality and a low number of patients in serious conditions. At the same time, people are urged to take all necessary precautions, including wearing a mask and receiving booster revaccination.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Japan, more than 11.9 million people have been infected with the coronavirus, and about 32,100 have died.
