Italy's prime minister сondemns antisemitism in pro-Palestine rallies

In a recent speech at the Italian Senate, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called out the signs of antisemitism and hints of support for Hamas and Hezbollah in the ongoing pro-Palestinian demonstrations across the country.

Meloni emphasized that any political steps towards achieving peace in the Middle East must involve remembering and firmly condemning the attack by Hamas militants on Israel on October 7, 2022. She stated, "Criticism of Israel [for actions in the Gaza Strip] cannot be mixed with justification of organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah. Like it or not, this is antisemitism, and the demonstrations taking place in our squares, unfortunately, demonstrate this."

The Italian Prime Minister also expressed solidarity with law enforcement officers who are ensuring security during the demonstrations.
