Italy receives clarification from Russia on payment for Russian gas

Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a conversation with Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, said that contracts for gas supplies from Russia in dollars and euros continue to operate, Report informs citing foreign media.

On March 23, the president of Russia announced that the country was converting payments for gas supplies to unfriendly states into rubles.

Draghi said Putin had explained to him how supplies would be converted into rubles. Thus, European companies will continue to pay for gas in euros or dollars.

“I just heard that then technical workers should contact each other on this issue in order to understand how it will work,” Draghi said, adding that the process of transferring payments into rubles is an “internal issue of Russia.”
