Italy: More than 20 cars collided in a chain accident

At least one person died, and several were injured in a major road accident in the Val di Susa valley near Turin in northwestern Italy, reports TASS.

As reported by the newspaper Corriere Della Sera, the cause of the collision of more than 20 cars was the icing of the road surface.

A section of the freeway is temporarily closed. Paramedics, police, and rescuers arrived at the scene, the newspaper said.

The entire Apennine Peninsula was affected by a cold cyclone that brought heavy snowfall to the central part of Italy and some southern parts of the country. The air temperature dropped significantly in the north and the mountainous areas. In some cities, schools were closed due to the snowfall. Moreover, there are reports of difficulties on the roads and delays in the movement of trains.
