Italy welcomes the Algerian initiative for a peaceful political settlement of the crisis in Niger, which provides for a six-month transitional period, Italian deputy prime minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani said after arriving at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in the Spanish city of Toledo, Report informs citing TASS.
He noted that when making an appropriate decision, it is necessary to take into account the opinion of all parties involved. According to Tajani, a military solution to the problem would be a catastrophe.
The foreign minister expressed the opinion that a similar problem is observed in Gabon.
“Our approach is an approach against new colonization, we should talk to Africans as friends and look [at events] through an African, not a European prism,” he said.
