Israel and Egypt agree to create safe passage out of Gaza for Americans

Israel and Egypt agreed in principle to create a safe passage out of Gaza for Americans and other foreign nationals, the US and Israeli officials said.

Report informs via Axios that they stressed the operational implementation might be very difficult mainly because it will require some kind of ceasefire.

According to the information, there are more than 500 Americans and hundreds of other foreign nationals in Gaza, among them UN workers, members of non-governmental organizations and journalists.

Egypt and the UN previously stated that they consider the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip unacceptable and advocate diplomatic efforts to protect civilians. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern that the current situation poses a real threat to regional security and praised Egypt's efforts to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave.

The UN also said that it is working with Cairo to create corridors for the delivery of humanitarian aid from Egypt to Gaza.
