Iraq’s Kurdistan Region suspends its representative office in Sweden

The government of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region announced the suspension of its representative office in Sweden in protest against the act of burning the Koran, Report informs via Shafaq News.

“We have decided to suspend the work of the Kurdistan Region representative office in Sweden due to the desecration of the Koran,” says the statement of the autonomous region’s government.

The Iraqi government decided to expel the Swedish ambassador in Baghdad and recall the republic's charge d'affaires in Stockholm.

The Swedish authorities had previously permitted a protest to be held in Stockholm on July 20, during which its organizers burned a copy of the Koran and the state flag of Iraq.
