Iran refuses to take part in COP28 due to Israeli presence

An Iranian delegation led by Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian refused to attend the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) conference in the UAE due to Israel's participation, Report informs via IRNA.

According to the information, the delegation headed to the UAE to participate in the conference on Thursday evening and planned to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip with leaders and representatives of the participating countries as part of their visit.

The Iranian side claims that it was confident that the Israeli delegation refused to attend the conference. In addition, Iran believes that the participation of Israelis in the conference would carry too strong reputational risks for them.

However, upon arrival in Dubai, where COP28 is taking place, the Iranian delegation was informed that the President of Israel and his accompanying delegation had nevertheless arrived at the conference. After this, the Islamic Republic refused to participate in the event.
