Ingrida Simonyte reappointed Lithuanian PM

The Lithuanian parliament Seimas on Tuesday expressed its support for Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė in a vote of confidence following the inauguration of President Gitanas Nausėda, Report informs via LRT.

After the swearing-in of the country’s leader last week for the second term, the government returned its powers to Nausėda.

Following the so-called courtesy resignation, the president submitted Šimonytė’s nomination for reappointing her as prime minister to the parliament.

In total, 69 MPs voted in favor of Šimonytė continuing as Lithuanian prime minister, while 30 voted against, and 25 abstained.

After this vote, the prime minister will have to agree on the composition of the new government with the president.

On Tuesday, Nausėda hinted that one or another minister of the current cabinet could be replaced and said he was particularly critical of the agriculture and health ministers.
