Indian strain of coronavirus detected in Belarus

For the first time, an Indian strain of the coronavirus was detected in Minsk. This version has not yet been found in other regions of the country, Report mentions, referring to RIA Novosti.

"In Minsk, as a result of the analysis of samples taken from persons infected with COVID-19, a mutation corresponding to the "Indian variant" was found in 10 samples. Thus, it is necessary to confirm the discovery of the Indian variant in Belarus. However, this variant has not been recorded in other regions of the country," said the Ministry of Health.

According to the Ministry of Health of Belarus, there is reason to believe that the Indian strain is spread out more effectively than other variants.

The official statistics say 411,551 people in Belarus have tested positive for COVID-19 so far. During the entire period of the disease, 3,063 people died of the infection.
