India to test its manned submersible as part of deep sea mission next year

India's National Institute of Ocean Technology is developing a manned submersible that will be capable of carrying three persons to a depth of 6,000 meters underwater.

Report informs via Times Now that the vehicle is being developed as part of the Samudrayaan project.

Under the project, India plans to send three people to a depth of 6,000 meters underwater in a submersible named Matsya 6000.

Matsya 6000 will undergo its first sea trials in the first half of 2024. The NIOT has factored in the mishap that caused a submersible name Titan to implode while it was taking tourists to the Titanic wreckage in the North Atlantic Ocean in June 2023 and has studied the factors that may have led the carbon fiber hull of Titan to explode.

Matsya is shaped in the form of a sphere of 2.1 meter diameter. It will have a vehicle endurance of 12 hours under deep sea conditions. That means every designed trip will last 12 to 16 hours max. It will be capable of emergency life support oxygen enough for 96 hours. The vessel will accommodate three people.
