India to send astronaut to Moon in 2040

India has created an ambitious space program aimed at landing an Indian astronaut on the Moon by 2040, said the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, Sridhara Somanath, Report informs via TASS.

"When we celebrate the 100th anniversary of our independence, the Indian flag will be flying on the Moon. Our person will go there, install it and return safely. This will happen in 2040," he said.

"For the first time in the history of the space program, we have a vision for the next 25 years," added the head of ISRO.

He said that as part of this roadmap, India plans to create its own space station in 10 years. This will be preceded by the launch of a space station module in 2028, which will prepare the ground for its full operational deployment, he noted.
