India introduces new type of visa for those leaving Afghanistan

The Indian government has announced a new category of electronic visas to fast-track applications of Afghans who want to come to India because of the prevailing situation in Afghanistan, Report informs referring to Mint newspaper.

The announcement came two days after the Taliban captured power in Afghanistan.

“MHA reviews visa provisions given the current situation in Afghanistan. A new category of electronic visa called ‘e-Emergency X-Misc Visa’ was introduced to fast-track visa applications for entry into India,” Home Ministry said in a statement.

Thousands of Afghans rushed into Kabul’s main airport on Aug. 16, some so desperate to escape the Taliban.

Given the prevailing circumstances, it has been decided that our Ambassador in Kabul and his Indian staff will move to India immediately, said MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.
