Hungary seeks removal of nine Russians from EU's sanctions list

Hungary has appealed to the European Commission with a request to remove nine Russian citizens from the ninth sanctions package, Report informs via Interfax.

Meanwhile, Poland is against such measures.

Hungary made a similar move in December, even before the ninth sanctions package was introduced against Russia, when it asked the European Commission to remove several Russians from the sanctions list. At that time, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto explained Budapest's position by saying such a step could "block the channels for communications with Moscow."

However, the EU Council later approved the package of sanctions without the changes requested by Budapest, adding 144 individuals to the sanctions list.
