Hungarian FM: Europe’s security depends on Turkey

Europe’s security depends on Turkey, and Budapest attaches particular importance to ties with Ankara, Hungarian Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said at a meeting with Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank in Ankara, Report informs referring to Anadolu Agency.

The Hungarian minister noted that Turkey plays a special role in migration and energy, thereby contributing to the security of Europe.

"Relations between Turkey and Hungary are developing at the level of strategic partnership. The dialogue between Budapest and Ankara is based on mutual respect and benefit for both parties," Szijjarto stated.

In turn, Mustafa Varank expressed hope that the current year will be a period of restoring confidence in relations between Ankara and the EU.

Varank praised Budapest’s position, where they seek to increase investor interest in deepening ties with Turkey.

He said that the latest decision by the Hungarian company Medicor to invest in the Turkish health sector is a clear example of this.

"Medicor’s investment plans reflect confidence in the economic potential and political stability in Turkey. Thanks to the close cooperation between the two countries, the volume of trade between our countries has increased from $356 million in 2001 to $3 billion in 2020," Varank noted.

He added that it is impossible to be satisfied with what has already been achieved, and the trade turnover of $6 billion is quite an achievable task.
