Humanitarian pauses crucial for polio vaccination in Gaza, says WHO Director-General

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), has emphasized that achieving peace in Gaza is the only effective medicine to protect its children from polio in the long run.

According to Report, during a briefing in Geneva, he welcomed the commitment of the conflicting parties in Gaza to establish humanitarian pauses during the vaccination campaign, expressing hope that "all sides will respect them."

The vaccination campaign is scheduled to begin on September 1, he said, adding, however, that the only long-term remedy is peace.

The only way to fully protect all children in Gaza is to cease fire, Ghebreyesus stressed.
