A huge forest fire has broken out in the south of France, Report informs via Blue News.
The fire, which broke out on Tuesday afternoon near Ribaute near Narbonne, had already destroyed 4,000 hectares of land by the evening, according to the authorities in the department of Aude. As a journalist reported to the AFP news agency, a campsite and around 30 houses were evacuated. According to the authorities, two people were injured. Several roads were also closed.
The fire department was reportedly deployed with 980 firefighters. They were supported by 14 fire-fighting aircraft and two fire-fighting helicopters.
The department of Aude had declared the highest forest fire alert level red on Tuesday. According to the weather service Météo-France, the entire region is affected by a heatwave. The risk of fire is "very high".
