Heavy snowfall in US kills eight

Baku. 16 November. REPORT.AZ/ The first snowfall in the United States that hit the northeast and a number of central regions of the country on November 14 and 15 killed at least eight people, Report informs citing TASS.

According to local authorities, eight people with three in Arkansas, two in Mississippi, one in Maryland, Ohio and Indiana were killed in traffic accidents on  snowy or icy roads. In Mississippi, in particular, the bus overturned, 46 passengers were provided with medical care, two women could not be saved.

Snow fell on a vast area with a total population of 80 million people. The snow height in some areas reached 20 cm. In many places there were broken wires of power lines. About 300,000 US citizens were left without electricity, including in Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

Notably, due to bad weather, the airline canceled almost 1,600 flights, mainly in the New York area. More than 8,000 flights have been rescheduled.
