Head of the public procurement department at Ukraine's Ministry of Defense, Bohdan Khmelnytsky, has been relieved of his post, according to the head of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Parliament, Anastasia Radin, Report informs via Ukrainian media.
"The director of the procurement department of the Ministry of Defense Khmelnytsky and the relevant deputy minister Shapovalov were fired," she said.
Radina also said that, according to Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, at the moment the servicemen are catering under last year's contracts, and the document published by journalists refers to an appendix to one of the ministry's new contracts that have not yet entered into force. As stated in the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in this and other contracts "errors have been identified and price checks and examinations are being carried out to fix them."
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense appealed to the country's Security Service and launched an investigation over a scandal involving inflated prices during purchases for the military.
Khmelnytsky has already been implicated in a corruption scandal. In August 2022, he appeared in a case of embezzlement of $580,000 from the ministry's funds when purchasing military ammunition.
