Head of European Parliament urges not to postpone negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in EU

Negotiations on Ukraine’s EU membership should start as soon as possible, President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola wrote on the debate page in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, Report informs referring to TASS.

“In the future, the European Parliament wants to start planning for Ukraine’s EU membership,” reads the article. “All candidate countries have their own way to this goal, but we must be open to negotiations as soon as possible. The prospect of membership will not only contribute to moral and symbolic, but also practical restoration of a free Ukraine.”

The reconstruction of Ukraine, the administration and legal system of the country will require hard work and difficult reforms, changes and bold decisions, the author of the article emphasizes. The European Parliament and various EU programs can help with this.

Metsola noted that the people of Ukraine “deserve unwavering support” from the West.
