Greek racist MP arrested

Ioannis Lagos, a racist member of the European Parliament from Greece and a member of the Golden Dawn Party, has been arrested in the Belgian capital, Brussels, Report states, citing TRT Haber.

He is expected to be sentenced to 13 years in prison in Greece. Lagos was arrested after an Interpol order.

For this reason, the European Parliament lifted the parliamentary immunity of Ioannis Lagos. On April 26, 658 members of the European Parliament voted in favor of his immunity, while 25 voted against it.

The Greek government has demanded lifting his parliamentary immunity.

On October 7, 2020, a court in Greece sentenced him to 13 years in prison. He fled the country and took refuge in Belgium after the arrest.

Lagos tore a paper model of the Turkish national flag in the European Parliament.
