Germany to repair Leopard 2 for Ukraine on its territory

Germany will repair Leopard 2A5 and Leopard 2A6 tanks damaged in Ukraine on its territory and, possibly, in Lithuania, Report informs referring to TASS.

The Handelsblatt newspaper previously reported that Berlin allegedly refused to create a joint service and repair center for tanks in Poland, which are involved in Ukraine. According to the publication, the refusal will be officially announced "in the coming days", the decision is allegedly due to "absolutely inflated price expectations of the Polish side."

The controversy was previously reported by Der Spiegel magazine. The implementation of the project was hindered by the Polish side. In particular, according to media reports, the state company PGZ wanted to take more than 100,000 euros for the so-called primary inspection of equipment. In Germany, such a service costs only about 12,000 euros.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in early July that the parties were going to eliminate all differences on this issue within 10 days.
