The European Union (EU) has failed to reach an agreement on imposing sanctions against Israel in connection with the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, Report informs via Spiegel.
IGermany and Italy played a significant role in blocking the initiative. Discussions at the Committee of Permanent Representatives in Brussels ended without result.
The European Commission proposed for the first time to partially suspend Israel's participation in the Horizon Europe research program, which is one of the main instruments of scientific cooperation between the EU and third countries.
This would have been Brussels' first direct step against Israel since the start of the war in Gaza. However, the disagreement of several member states prevents this decision from being adopted at the EU level.
