French special services have prevented nine planned terrorist attacks on the territory of the republic, France's Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau stated in an interview with Le Parisien newspaper, Report informs.
"The threat is real, like never before. In 2024, our special services prevented at least nine terrorist acts planned by Islamists on the country's territory, three of which were intended to be carried out during the Olympic Games. This is the highest number of prevented terrorist acts since 2017," the minister noted.
Retailleau indicated his intention to tighten the fight against radical Islamists. According to him, citizens who are released after serving sentences for terrorism-related charges pose a significant threat in this context: "In 2024, there were 84 such individuals, and in 2025, the number is expected to be more than 60."
Retailleau emphasized that he does not believe they have abandoned their radical ideas and promised that these individuals will be kept under surveillance.
