French far-right leader calls for immigration referendum

The chairman of the far-right French National Rally, Jordan Bardella, insists that French President Emmanuel Macron organize a referendum on immigration policy.

Bardella was speaking on air TF1 TV, Report informs.

"I urge the president to take French citizens seriously and organize a referendum on immigration," he said.

The leader of the far-right explained this need by the fact that the issue of immigration control is of great concern to the French population. In addition, Bardella reminded that he insists on dissolving the National Assembly to hold early elections in the fall.

"There is only one way out of the political crisis that has engulfed us - organizing new elections," Bardella added.

In accordance with Article 11 of the Constitution, immigration policy issues cannot be put up for discussion in a referendum, Le Figaro newspaper notes.
