Four more Trump national security aides resign

Four other senior members of the National Security Council (NSC) at the White House left their posts following the riots on January 6 in Washington, Report states, citing Reuters.

Earlier, the Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao and the US Education Secretary Betsy Devos resigned amid the unrest. Mick Mulvaney, President Donald Trump’s former chief of staff, also said he had resigned as a special US envoy to Northern Ireland.

On January 6, US Capitol descended into chaos and violence as hundreds of pro-Trump rioters swarmed the building, leaving four people dead and forcing the Senate to evacuate and Vice President Mike Pence to be ushered to safety.

After rioters broke through barricades, the frenzied scene forced Congress to evacuate parts of the building and abruptly pause a ceremonial event affirming that President-elect Joe Biden won the November election.
Subsequently, the meeting of Congress resumed, and lawmakers approved the results of the presidential election, which was won by Democrat Joseph Biden. On January 20, the inauguration ceremony of the new US president will take place.
