The management of the Finnish border service has proposed permanently closing two checkpoints on the border with Russia, Report informs referring to the Finnish television and radio company Yle.
It is proposed to close the Parikkala and Inari checkpoints in the city of Lieksa. Their work was suspended for several years.
Parikkala was inactive due to EU sanctions, and Inari due to the cessation of timber imports.
In the early 2000s there were more than a dozen crossings between Finland and Russia. However, since then their number has been constantly decreasing.
