The EU does not expect problems with the uranium supplies after the coup in Niger, since it has sufficient reserves and there are now enough offers on the world market, the European Commission Spokesperson Adalbert Jahnz said at a briefing in Brussels, Report informs via TASS.
“Nothing threatens the stability of uranium supplies to Europe in the short and medium term. We have significant reserves, and there are also enough offers on the world market,” Jahnz said, answering a question about the risks of a deterioration in the supply of uranium to Europe after the refusal of Niger to supply it to France.
“Niger is an important supplier of uranium to various EU countries. It supplies uranium in its natural form, which must then be processed into various chemical compounds and enriched for use as fuel,” Jahnz added.
He stressed that the enrichment of Nigerien uranium is carried out in France and Spain, and then the enriched uranium can be used in different countries of the European Union.
