EU countries refuse to accept refugees from Afghanistan

None of the European Union countries agreed to open their doors to refugees from Afghanistan. European Parliament chief David Sassoli expressed deep disappointment over this fact, speaking at the forum on strategic security in Slovenia, Report informs, citing TASS.

He said he was deeply disappointed over yesterday's decision of the EU Council on domestic affairs. According to him, the EU countries think only about those Afghans who worked with them and their family members, but none dare to offer shelter to all those whose lives are still in danger today.

He urged the EU countries not to turn a blind eye to the Afghan problems.

At the emergency session of the EU Council held in Brussels on August 31 on the level of interior ministers, it was decided not to allow the repetition of the migration crisis of 2015-2016, when the EU saw over a million illegal migrants. The ministers said the EU wouldn't tolerate mass migration from Afghanistan to Europe. Therefore, Brussels intends to provide significant support to the countries in the region, who will host the refugees. Moreover, the EU will strengthen its external borders, and all cases of provision of refuge to refugees from Afghanistan will be considered in an individual manner.
