EU agrees on a single system for moving within Schengen area

Seven months after the start of the coronavirus pandemic, EU member states agreed on a unified system for organizing cross - border movement of people within the Schengen area, based on the common European classification of the sanitary situation in all European countries.

Report says, citing TASS, the statement was issued on Tuesday by the EU Council.

"The [EU] Council approved the [European Commission] recommendations for a coordinated approach to restrictions on freedom of movement in response to the pandemic. These recommendations should avoid fragmentation and disruption of the functioning of the Schengen area and help to increase transparency and predictability for people and businesses," the document says.

Before that, each EU state took all quarantine and other sanitary measures independently, which led to confusion when moving around Europe.
