Egypt to launch production of Chinese vaccine Sinovac

Egypt launches a local coronavirus vaccine production line for Chinese company Sinovac Biotech in June.

Report informs citing TASS that the Minister of Health and Population of the country Hala Zayed said this during a visit to the production line of the holding company of biological preparations and vaccines VACSERA, whose facilities will produce the Chinese vaccine.

"The first batch of raw materials for production will arrive on May 18," she said. "The first two million doses will be produced at the end of June, they will be tested at the Egyptian Medicines Authority, followed by mass production of the vaccine at the end of July."

According to the minister, "Egypt strives to become a regional hub in the production of vaccines and export them to African countries."

The minister of health indicated that the epidemiological situation in Egypt is "stable." Over the past day, 1,132 new cases of infection were detected, 66 people died. The country has reported over 236,000 infections and 13,845 deaths since the onset of the pandemic.
