The upcoming meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, scheduled to take place during the NATO foreign ministers’ summit in Brussels this week, may be called off due to rising tensions over Greenland.
According to The Financial Times, cited by Report, diplomatic interactions between Washington and Copenhagen have been reduced to a "minimal level."
Denmark, which had previously attempted to downplay Us President Donald Trump's demands and discouraged allies from responding to his statements, has recently taken a more assertive stance, reacting sharply to Washington’s rhetoric.
Regarding the US administration’s criticism of Denmark’s governance of Greenland, Rasmussen stated that while his country is "open to criticism," it does "not approve of the tone" in which it is expressed.
Earlier, Trump declared that the US would acquire Greenland “one way or another.” In an interview with NBC News, he suggested there was a "good chance" of achieving this diplomatically but did not rule out other options.
